Animal blood donation allows healthy dogs and cats to help other animals in need of care. Behind every donation are families, veterinary teams and a whole community of people willing to help. Taxi Animalier Paris is happy to play its part.
Following our first collaboration with CHV Frégis in June, we are volunteering again for the blood donation day on Friday 16 October 2026. Our contribution is to provide free return transport for participating animals, with journeys arranged together with their families and the hospital.
Why is animal blood donation important?
A dog or cat may need a transfusion after significant blood loss or because of certain illnesses. Blood products can help treat conditions such as severe anaemia and some clotting disorders.
Blood supplies cannot be stored indefinitely. They need to be replenished so that veterinary teams can meet their patients’ needs. After collection, blood products are processed and stored by veterinary teams.
Behind every donation, a pet and a family
When a pet is in hospital, their family waits for news, hopes for improvement and wishes there were more they could do. Taking part in a blood donation drive is also a way to support those families and the animals they love.
Everyone has a part to play: vets handle the donation and medical care, families put their pets forward as donors, and we help make the journey possible. This practical contribution is what makes our involvement meaningful.
From June to October: our collaboration with Frégis
In June, Taxi Animalier Paris first worked with CHV Frégis on animal blood donation. We wanted to share a few words about that experience: it laid the foundations for a commitment we are delighted to continue today.
On 16 October 2026, we will once again be volunteering our services. We are offering participating animals free transport to the hospital and back home. Journeys must be arranged with our team in advance, around the appointments confirmed by Frégis.
Free transport applies to this initiative and to animals registered for this particular event. Contact us to plan the outward and return journeys and your pet’s travel arrangements.

Blood donation for dogs and cats: who can take part?
For Friday 16 October 2026, CHV Frégis is looking for 4 dog donors and 4 cat donors. These are the requirements announced for this event:
For dogs
Between 1 and 8 years old
Minimum weight: 12 kg
For cats
Between 1 and 8 years old
Minimum weight: 3.5 kg
- Be in good health, with vaccinations up to date.
- Have no recent travel history.
- Never have received a blood transfusion.
- Not have donated blood in the past three months.
The 16 October announcement specifies at least three months since the last donation. The general leaflet recommends donating every four to six months: ask Frégis to confirm the appropriate interval for your pet. The team also confirms weight requirements and conditions relating to travel or medication.
Dogs and cats have blood groups. Checking compatibility between donor and recipient is part of the veterinary assessment.
A day supervised by the veterinary team
The announced programme includes a health examination, a full blood panel and a donation under light sedation. Frégis provides the medical care and will give you the instructions to follow before your visit and after the donation.
Follow the hospital’s guidance when preparing your pet. Any questions about food, medication, sedation or returning home should be discussed with the veterinary team.
The day also includes a keepsake photo, gifts and pet food provided by Hill’s, and light refreshments for families. Frégis says that owners who are unavailable during the day can drop their pet off in the morning and collect them in the evening; please arrange this directly with the hospital.

The veterinary team will check whether your pet can take part and confirm the appointment arrangements. Submitting the form does not, on its own, confirm a place at this event.

Frequently asked questions about animal blood donation
Can my cat donate blood too?
Yes. The appeal for 16 October is for cats as well as dogs: Frégis is looking for four donors of each species. For this event, cats must be between 1 and 8 years old and weigh at least 3.5 kg, among other requirements, subject to veterinary approval.
Is a healthy animal automatically accepted?
No. The published requirements are an initial guide. The veterinary team assesses every potential donor, and examinations help establish whether donation is suitable for the animal.
Do I need to stay at the hospital all day?
Frégis says you can drop your pet off in the morning and collect them in the evening. Please arrange this directly with the hospital, then share the times with us so we can plan the transport.
Is transport free for this event?
Yes. Taxi Animalier Paris is volunteering its services and providing free return journeys for animals taking part on 16 October 2026. Arrangements must be agreed with our team in advance.
How can I help if my pet cannot donate?
You can share the appeal, tell friends and family about it, and pass on the information from Frégis. You may know a family willing to put their dog or cat forward.
